Security System Question.
I'm new to this forum. Did not find this answer on a previous post. I'm hoping that someone can give me the answer I need.
2005 H.D. Road King Classic Fuel Injected. 20K miles.
I replaced the motorcycle battery a couple weeks ago because the old battery was dead as a door nail. Could not charge it up again. The bike's been sitting for about 4 years due to medical issues and my advanced age..
I did not drain the tank or add stabilizer like I should have and shame on me.
After the new battery was installed, I started the bike and it ran but not smoothly. I shut it off and a little while later I started it again and it ran but was still a bit rough. O.K., old fuel ?
Two days later I tried to start the bike but all it would do is turn over. It just would not fire up. I thought that maybe the fob was bad so I used the other fob I have for this bike and again, it turned over but would not start. The 1st fob did not function the directional lights no matter what I tried. The 2nd fob did flash the directional lights like it should have. I changed the coin battery in fob #1 but still nothing. Bad fob? maybe, I just don't know.
However fob #2 was working so I stayed with that one.
I removed the plug from the front cylinder and saw that it was dry and sooty black. Burning to rich when it was running. I sprayed some starter fluid into the cylinder and reinstalled the plug. When I tried to start it, it did in face fire right up and ran till the starter fluid was used up.
I then tried spraying starter fluid into the intake manifold and again it fired right up and ran till the fuel was used up.
It did not continue running on any of the gas that was in the tank.
I checked every fuse on the bike. All were good. All were 15 amp values. I pulled all of the connectors off to check for corrosion and nothing was corroded. All the contacts were wiped clean and put back together.
So I know that it was getting a spark but no fuel.
I decided to remove the fuel injectors to see if they were clogged with old gunk from the old gas. The rear injector was yucky at the spray port holes and the front one looked pretty good. So why didn't just the front cylinder fire on gasoline ??
I sent the injectors out to be rebuilt. They were tested before the rebuild and were with in specs and the rear injector was off by 1% from the front injector. After cleaning, new filters and O rings were installed. They were tested again and both injectors were running balanced and again with in specs. I have not reinstalled them yet. Still waiting for parts to replace the fuel filter and gasket and the new screws for the tank opening.
When I removed the fuel rail, there was gasoline in it that was available for the injectors. So fuel was getting delivered to the top of the injectors, but it stopped there.
I thought that maybe the ECM was bad and after reading the service manual I believe that the ECM is O.K. and it may be the Security System preventing the injectors from receiving any electrical current to open and close them as needed.
My question after all of this lengthy posting is: Does the Security System shut off the current to the fuel injectors so that the engine won't run ? I can't find this anywhere.
By using the starter fluid I by passed the injectors and the bike ran. So it's a fuel delivery problem and may caused by the Security System. ???
I don't think it's a matter of fuel pressure ( 58 lbs PSI required.) or a burst fuel line inside the tank. Gas got to the fuel rail...
The fuel pump runs for a couple seconds after I turn the switch to on and the amber light goes off. Then I don't hear the pump any more. That's how it's always been.
Has anyone ever heard of this problem before. ? Is it possible that the fob needs to be reset by holding the button for a while near the left turn signal button?
I have the 5 digit code to put into the bike manually if needed.
After I get all the parts, I'll switch them out and try it again. I'm keeping my fingers crossed..
Thanks for any tips or clues,

Update,
I opened the tank yesterday and removed the pump, filter and regulator. Not sure when this happened but the line from the pump to the filter was completely broken in half near the top of the pump. It may have been intact before I had to wrestle it out of the tank, but it may have been cracked already.
The line which is plastic, was really brittle. 17 years in the Arizona heat will do that to stuff. I touched the pump and the zip ties actually fell off in pieces. The Sock Filter on the bottom of the pump was torn and just hanging there. The line from the regulator to the quick connect fitting also looked just as bad. Naturally you can't buy just the line so I had to order a new line with a new quick connect fitting. $3.00 part now jumped to over $30.00 Damn.....
New pump, and regulator should arrive today. Already have a new filter.
So just maybe this was the cause of my problems. Regulator checked out O.K. ECM ? Who knows, keeping fingers crossed that it's still O.K.
There were are. Maybe this situation is solved.
Time will tell.

Horray !!! I got it running again.
I found the broken fuel line from the pump to the filter and decided that the Arizona heat was not good for the plastic parts in the tank. I decided to replace everything inside the tank to be on the safe side. Not a lot of fun, but it's done.
Fired up as soon as the gas got pumped to the injectors.
Sounds great now.
So thanks to all who took the time to read and / or comment on my posting.
