This has probably been asked before but I searched around and did not find any info - On an electronic ignition setup like the one on my '81 XLS, how or what advances or retards the timing?

The breaker plate in the nose of the cam cover will change the timing. You might have to drill out therivits on the cover to revel the plate...you will see a plate with slotted mount holes and ADV stamped in it with an arrow pointing in the direction of advance....each one of the lines stampedin the plate repesents 2.5 degrees movement.
