Hi Guys. About 7 months ago I bought a used Harley Davidson Softail standard 2009.
had a&s slip ons and was loud as hell .stock air cleaner and quite a bit of decel pop plus the pipes are quite Sooty. Sometimes she's kind of chuggy off the line and ...thinking this was very strange I went back and had them look over it and I was assured all is fine ..but was informed at some point another air intake was on it. Is it possible that it still is tuned but with intake put back on? I have another A/C ..an s&s stealth air stinger... should I just swap em over and ride like that until I can afford a tuner?
Without knowing if it's tuned for the high flow intake and Exhaust I wouldn't risk running it lean. Too rich isn't good either but it would have to be pretty rich to wash down the cylinders. Put in new plugs then go do a full throttle run...pull over and pull the plugs and have a look. Post some pictures here if you want help reading them...im not one of them but some of these guys can tell you alot from looking at a plug. Check the exhaust flange nuts, make sure they're tight and not leaking as that will cause popping. Got a friend with a power vision? You can buy a license and map support from fuelmoto for 220 bucks, a bargain in today's world, and use your friends power vision to map it. Then at least you'll know what you have going on.

Unfortunately you can no longer read plugs as in the past.
Lead caused the discoloring of the porcelain so we could use the color shades to evaluate engine fueling.
So If you see color on the porcelain either you read the plugs right after a rich cold warmup or its so rich performance and mileage suffers.
If you possess an otoscope you can use it to look for a very thin ring of color at the very base of the porcelain which is the only way to read plugs since lead disappeared.
Hope this helps,
Bob
