You guys can call me silly (or worse), but I want to share that I NEVER buy fuel from any station where the fuel is dispensed from pumps with a single fuel nozzle. I will keep riding until I find a fuel station with dedicated nozzles for premium gas.
Here is where the "silly" part comes in; I am concerned that I am diluting the premium with a non-specific amount of low-octane fuel from the last guy that used that pump that is still sitting in the hose. Anybody want to guess how much fuel is sitting in that hose before YOUR selection starts flowing?
Forcing your Harley to swallowlow-octane fuel, or diluting what you are putting in your tank, can't be a good thing, nor do I think is insignificant.
Geez i never thought of that... and with only a 5 gallon tank to fill i bet you could end up with a gallon or so of "whatever" untill the fuel youre paying for actually comes out the nozzle!
Wow... Im doing that from now on.Right on brother.
PoorBoy I always try and fill up with staions that have 3 hoses, but where I live those are getting hard to find. I have been noticing some pinging at higher RPM's at full throtle and was debating about changing my PCIII map but now I think I will go the 15 miles to the closest three hose staion and fill up and test some more.
That's been my position since long before I got back into two-wheeled motivation. Just think of what you're paying for vs. what you're getting if you only want one gallon to make some pre-mix for your chainsaw at one of those one-hose-wonders...
When I use a PCIII my bike pings like crazy I even Had it dyno tune put a sert on this help a lot notice on a very hot day and riding in the hills it will ping just a little the harley ecm has some thing in it that helps the pinging right now I am looking at a tmax with auto tune and trying to decide if I should put in I hate to go back to the pinging.
You can order a TM with A/T set up like yer bike is and install it. You have to drive it for it to tune itself. I mean over 500 miles. It only tunes where you drive, so you need to drive at different rpms and different speeds. I have a TM on my bike, have over 5000 miles on it. TM is 1st class. Realize the kinds of pipes you have on yer bike can create problems for the TM and a Dyno Man also.
Put one on my buddy's bike. No problems what so ever.
Know a advanced TM tuner in the south if anybody lives near there.
But you need high octaine fuel. Harley has the bikes running pretty lean.
I've never had my bike to Ping, I used only Chevron, Exxon, Shell, mobile and stations like this too. but I kept the rpms up till it had 5000 miles on it.
