Default RE: SERT Questions

The Screamin Eagle Race Tuner is not "installed" on any bike. It is a module used to transfer EFI tuning data to the bikes ECM. This data transfer reflashes the ECM with a new instruction set. The SERT cannot copy current programmed info from the ECM back to your computer. It will tell you the name of the calibration file currently loaded into the ECM, but nothing more about the file will be retrived. You can use the Data mode software to record "live" engine parameters. Dont confuse the SERT with a Power Commander type unit that must stay on the bike and works by fooling the ECM.

The SERT is NOT transferable to another bike. Once the SERT is setup and used on a particular bike, it will work only with that bike. To use the SERT, you will of course need the SERT module, the cable between the SERT and the computer, and the cable between the SERT and the bike. Starting-point calibration files are available on the CD, but these files were optimized for bikes using Screamin Eagle brand components. But generally, they are pretty good and in some cases can be used without further tuning...depending upon how much of a purest the owner of the bike might be.

Be sure and get a copy of the file that your buddy has loaded into the bikes ECM. You will need it if you ever need to reload it after screwing-up your bike messing around with tuning that may not go as planned. Read the SERT manual, twice. Then ask a lot of questions.IF you are not willing to go that route, you might consider leaving the tuning to someone else. Good luck.

I agree with Joe, but be sure to grab the cables if your cousin has them.

I'm a bit confused - are YOU buying your cousin's Fatboy, or is he selling it to someone else and only giving you the SERT? If the latter is the case he should pass the SERT along to the new owner as the SERT is useless on any other bike.

Good catch. The SERT is only good on the bike to which it was mated. It should go to the new owner of the fatboy.
