Had the unit installed for a while now but winter and all left it alone. Well today, couldn't stand it any longer and went for it. Since it came with preloaded map I was even more curious as to how it behaved. Taped the throttle so I wouldn't accidently use it and taped the oil fill plug so it would not blow out during this. Never has before, but Murphy is alive and well for some of us. I even took out a fan to cool the pipes , as one other run with the stock ecm made them glow red idling. Turned the key on and hit the start button, and with a couple of revs it fired up and ran, rather well actually in a slightly higher rpm as it should when cold. As it heated up the idle dropped to what I felt was normal. I don't have a tach and wasn't linked up to the ecm. Let it run until I was damn sure I hit 285-290 on the head. I'm a welder, you see, so I can guess reasonably close with a few tricks. Shut it down and untaped the throttle. Let it cool down a bit and did a restart. The startups are more gentle than with stock ecm, probably a timing thing. As I advanced the throttle slowly I could detect an ever so slight lag at around 1300 rpm more or less. This can be seen on the maps at the point timing targets start to climb with rpm. Transitions are smooth from there and that mini lag is totally meaningless from an operational standpoint. As the rpms are increasedthe engine will maintain a smooth effortlessstate all the way up, which the stock unit really sucked at. After the first run the fan was shut off but I never saw the pipes glow. Now on to some questions. On the stock ecm, when the key was turned on you can hear the fuel pump. That is the same with tmax, however with the stock ecm when you turn the key off there is also some noise in the tank for a second or two almost like a reversing pump sound . This noise is absent with the tmax. What was that original noise and it's purpose? I did shift up through the gears sitting still but no 6th gear indicator . Am I to assume you need to be moving before that feature will work as it always had a delayed reaction before? Until I can get it out on the road I won't know any more, but it seems to run really well in the garage and that nagging question, (will it run) has been put to bed. Ron
