Ok, I just got the L version SERT. When I tried to programm the ecm, it couldn't find the vin#. This is on a 2008 fatboy. I had to get a usb to serial adapter from Radio Shack because my laptop had 15 pin serial port instead of the 9 pin the sert uses. Could it be the connection between the cables or would it be something else? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
My mistake, I forgot to turn the switch on the handlebars to the run position. Now it read my vin but stopped at 25%: said unable to load bootloader. Any ideas anybody?
I've been repairing PC's before they were called PC's and never recall a 15 pin serial connector. Maybe 25 pin. Now the game port is 15 pin.
But, sounds like it's somewhat working. Couple things: DON'T abort out of the SERT application - let it timeout (might take awhile). After the software times out, do a "find VIN" serveral times to be sure it's talking okay. Then hit the program. Next moves would be another laptop and/or a different USB adapter.
If you go into the "SERT data" mode - does it read the data?
If I try to exit the program a window pops up and says application is in ecm recovery mode, closing application will cause data to be lost and have to be recovered by dealer with digital technician. Should I leave cables hooked to ecm to let it time out or what?
