I just put Vance and Hines Longshots HS on my Heritage Classic, and the Tech guy at the local Harley shop said I wouldnt have to tune it as long as I didnt put an air cleaner on. Well now you all know what I am about to say. He was wrong, my fuel milage dropped to like 20-25 mpg. I called him back and he says oh yeah you need a high flow and a stage 1 download. I ask him about the V&H fuelpak and he says they are junk. Typical HD guy so what to do. I am going to put a new filter just dont know what kind and what kind of fuel management would you guys recommend. Hope for some suggestions. Thanks from Texas
I have a fuel pak, SE air filter kit and VH slip-ons.
I DID NOT update the ecu, I followed the instructions on the fuel pak.
If I do a steady 60 mph in 6th, I get 60-62 mpg (about 50+) us miles per gallon.
My spark plugs are tannish (light) but in the 'zone'.
I think the HD tech is wrong in his view.
How much can you spend? You will receive many opinions, but will all agree your bike will run lean.
I added the fuel pak and a K&N replacement filter. I'm happy, runs well and sounds good.
I don't think they are junk. Easy to install. Have fun.
Money isnt the problem. In my line of work the most expensive isn't always the best, you know. If the fuel pak and air filter can fix my mileage and still keep my rockin sound. I am looking out for numero uno---my scoot. Many Thanks
The Fuel Pak has done nothing for my bike(V&H ShortShots, Ness BS,) since installing it my bike will occasionally stall, backfire, pop and just not run like it should. Most people like the FP and I'm probably the only one that doesn't. I just bought a Tmax and it should be here this weekend I can't wait to see if it helps my problems. As far as I concerned it worth the money to find out. I personally can't reconmend the FP to anyone.
Hogrida your not the only one .I have pretty much the same setup as you and my bike won,t run as it should. All the usual popping, backfires, just not right. I,ve got a Power Commander on the way from Fuelmoto, and probably some dyno time.
If you want plug and play with no confusion, install a Cobra FI2000R. I have Samson 29" Silver Bullet Slasher slip-ons and a KN 1499 Air filter on my 06 Road King Classic. Better throttle response. No popping on decel. Great sound. The thing works. $215. I like it.
I have fuel pak on 07 lowrider and it works great no popping runs smoother and not as lean.No trouble installing had some decel. pop but talked to v and h and we remedied.
I think I have been reading that the short shots were a little harder to tune.
I ride an 02 fatboy, I first put on the SE slipons, with the stage 1 download
no air filter mods , still got great mileage..
down the road I changed to V&H big shot stagggereds, bought the fuel pak and SE air filter, programmed as necessary,
STILL got great mileage, next I put the V&H big shot longs on,reprogrammed the fuel pak
and I still get great fuel mileage...
my bike has almost 58000 miles on her clock
what kind of mileage you ask.... is 49 mpg on the highway and staying off the throttle good enough
for you???
I just installed my FuelPak yesterday on an 07 Ultraglide Classic. Added the SE AC and RH True Duals at the same time. Now my check engine light won't turn off. Gotta check all the sensors to see if I disconnected any. I was careful to leave the main power and engine switces off during the install of the FP, so I don't think that's the issue.
Anyone had this experience and remedied it?
