Hi, This is my 1st of many questions here. Yesterday my wife picked up a new service manual and a few other small items.....one being a high beam indicator bulb. My bike is a 97 Sportster custom 1200 XL. The manual says this bulb cannot be replaced, tho whole unit must be replaced holding all your indicator bulbs. The buld the dealer sold me looks as if it just slides in a socket similar to a christmas tree bulb. I havent torn into the bike yet as if I need to replace the whole unit it seems like I may just live with it not working. Any info would be greatly appriciated. John

I haven't heard of the whole unit being replaced for a bulb out. If they sold you a bulb and they are correct, you should be able to replace it. Another option is something like this.. https://www.hdforums.com/m_204196/tm.htm

Turned out to be a easy job. After removing the chrome face plate theres a little plastic box with the light sockets in it.....pulled the faulty one out the bottom, replaced bulb and pushed it back up......works great. I don't understand if the book is wrong or I just misunderstood.
Now on to another project.

Took the bike out for about the 4th ride this spring, It only April 20th And my indicater bulb is OUT again! Could there be an under-lying problem or possibly just a bad bulb?
