installed a mini ape handelbar on my softail. i have noticed the plastic coating starting to rub against the hole in the bottom of the bar. any remedies out there to keep the bar from rubbing through and causing me to rewire it again?
If you run wires through metal, you should always have some kind of grommet. Otherwise it will eventually cut into the wire and short out. That could be tough to do now that you've drilled and ran the wires.
Get a small rubber grommet to fit the hole. split it at an angle, and work it around the wires and into the hole. Use a little 3M weatherstrip adhesive to glue the split back together.
Or, cut a 1" piece of rubber tubing and split it length wise. Then you can wrap it around the wires and work it halfway up in to the hole. Glue it in place with 3M goo.
If you can't get a rubber gromit for the hole, I think I would put some clear silicone in the hole where the wires are rubbing and once it sets up it will hold them in one place without chaffing on the bars edge. It will always come out again if you need to remove the wires.
