Default Thundermax

anybody used Zipper's Thundermax? guy at motorcycle show talked about the Thundermax and it sure sounds like the way to get your TC88 to run the best....it's a ECM that replaces your stock ECM and you can flash it whenever you make changes to the bike...thanks for any info!!!

The SERT lets you flash the ECM anytime you want so I don't know what this guy is selling.. Sounds like crap to me!

he had the ThunderMax ECM on display and it replaces the stock ECM.....most ECM's in autos are flashable so I see no reason the ThunderMax is not flashable........the stock ECM is flashable but the problem is the downloads from Harley are to generic and not custom maps for your particular set up......also it was Zippers located in Elkridge MD and from what I have found out they have a solid reputation....

I have nothing against the thundermax but don't be confused about the SERT. The SERT is capible of custom maps also. You don't need to use the generic maps that come with the SERT, they are just a starting point.

Correct Above. So back to my original..sounds like crap. Why would you replace the ECM when you can do everything with the SERT. There is nothing wrong with the stock ECM. If the guy is selling aftermarket ECM's then it sounds like he's trying to sell you a scam.

The SERT/PCIII is what you need, not a new ECM.

the thundermax has a new ecm which has a ps2 connector, and software. it is as tunable as the sert, maybe more. zippers actually dynos many bikes with many combinations and chances are they already have a map that fits your exact displacement, cams, heads, pipes etc.
if not, the software is very user friendly and allows you to adjust all parameters.
why would you want a new ecm?????? ask that question when your factory ecm fails while flashing with sert, if thundermax were to fail, you still have the stock one to get you off the highway, or even home, depending on mods.
zippers does not sell junk, nor do they participate in scams-------maybe you should do a little research before making those kind of accusations.
there are four tunes today, sert, thundermax, dtt, and the new closed loop s&s. sert is the only one that does not give you a new ecm!!!!

To say crap is a false statement. It is a good unit at a fair price. Maybe not such a great choice for stock or mild builds but for big cam exotic builds it would be a gread option. If you are into Nitrous it is a super option with it's Dry nitrous feature. Like many other things it is all about your combination and what you are looking for. I have seen good products get bad reputations due to uneducated or inexperienced people using them. Zippers was at the show yesterday fully supporting the thundermax with Knowledgeable People. Even on a stock or mild build I doubt anyone would be unhappy with the Thundermax-Remember 30 day money back warranty. If you go to Daytona you could have them install one ride it for the week and if you don't like it take it off and give it back before returning home. Try that with a SERT. (don't get me wrong I like my SERT, I also have had great luck with the PC)

How to approach this one....

The Thundermax is a bit different than the SERT in that it has more touch points to tune at than the SERT. You can get much more tunability out of it, the processor inside it, is faster and has to be to allow you the number of cells it does to tune the bike. The initial maps given by Zippers continue to grow and they are offering them to you at no additional charge as well there is supposed to be a web site coming soon where you can go and just download them. To say the item is crap is just ignorance. While some won't go through the expense to get one, others will to get more tunability out of it. To give an example my buddy has an 03 SERK (screaming eagle road king) The bike could have been tuned more than the base map, but he chose to leave the bike where it was on a stock 103 with bassani true duals and a HD SE A/C ended up at 105 tq / 95 hp. He exceeded my bikes base numbers which were 98 tq / 94 hp with D&D's 2 into 1 and SE A/C and SERT.
