ANOTHER CHECK ENGINE LIGHT QUESTION

On a 1999 fuel injected Ultra Classic is it true you are suppose to wait until the check engine light goes out before you try to start it? It take the red light about 4 seconds to go out.I have been told this but can't find any proof in the manual.

Different bike, but my 08 book says the ligh will come on for 4 secs.. Fuel pump will run appx 2 secs..

Does not say I have to wait..

On a Magnetti-Marrelli ECM bike, the Starter button should NOT be pressed until the CEL (Check Engine Light) extinguishes....

The dual Plenum Induction module that is on that bike has what is called an ISC (Idle Speed Controller), and it MUST go through it's cycle of range motion BEFORE the starter is engaged... On the Forward side, near the throttle cables is a small motor attached to an arm... It is used for ALL starting scenarios Hot or Cold.....

Newer bikes (Delphi ECM w/ single plenum induction module) rely on an IAC (Idle Air Controller), same principal, but much more robust in it's environmental adaptability....
