In have a 1986 XLH Sportster (My first Harley) which was bought and stored right away back at the end of November. I was in the garage the other day to fire up the turn signals to see if they all work before I get the thing safeted. I noticed that all the signals work, except the turn signals don't stay on when you push the button? You have to keep releasing the button off and on manually to keep the sequence going. I thought you are just suppose to push the button and let them do there thing? Are they broken or am I just an air head?
Sorry if the explaination was not the best, Thanks
Are you saying you once you push the turn signal button the signals start flashing, but they stop flashing when you release the button?
Or are you saying once you push the button the turn signal comes on steady but doesn't flash?
If the first, I think they are designed that way, to only work when you have the button held in. Push the button and hold it in to see if they flash.
If the second, as others said, make sure the front & real bulbs are good, then replace the flasher.
Skip,
The newer ones work a little differently than the pre historic bikes you grew up on! Now we just push the button, the signal flashes and it automatically goes off after you finish the turn. You don't have to push the button in and out to get it to flash...

Oh, but yer a funny one today! Some of the early turn sigs on HDs only flashed while you held the button in. I don't remember when they changed.
