Default XIED Engine Temps

Just got back from a ride after installing the XIED on my 08EGC.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; The bike seems to run better and had areading of 291 deg at the rear cylinder near the spark plug when checked by a IR thermometer. &nbsp\\;\\\\\\;I bought the thermometer after the install so I don’t have a baseline.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; Do you think &nbsp\\;\\\\\\;291 is better than stock. By the way it is 90+ deg today.

291 is pretty hot. I hope you are running synthetic oil.

I don't think 291 is that hot. Mine hit 400 one day.

Anything over 280 to me is hot. 400 is off the chart to me.

291 is a great temp.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; There is a huge difference between cylinder temps and actual oil temps.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; Your bike is running much cooler than a stock 08.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; I measured my buddy's stock 05 Low Rider and his temps were higher than yours.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; 05s did not have the heat issues the 07s and 08s have.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; J.B.
&nbsp\\;
I get temps of just over 300 on mine with the Powercommander..

AISTQM............&nbsp\\; Those are nice numbers,&nbsp\\; Ive got a set of the XIED comming next week ,&nbsp\\; been running the first generation IED's when they first came out,&nbsp\\; in fact I only paid $59.00 for the set,&nbsp\\;they work pretty well, but Im going with ture duals, more for the sound and the clean look, hopefully I can get away without any down loads,&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; We will see... Thanks for the replies but here is the next issue.&nbsp\\; I'm throwing P131 and P151 codes.&nbsp\\; No check engine light.&nbsp\\; Can I just ignore the codes or is it something that can damage anything.

Those codes are for lean conditions in both cylinders.&nbsp\\; My guess is that they've been there before the XIEDs.&nbsp\\; I've read a stock bike can set off the codes.&nbsp\\; I would clear them and see if they come back on.&nbsp\\; If they do then I would either call Steve at Nightrider or put back on your stock airbox if your running an upgraded one.&nbsp\\; If you're already running a stock airbox then I'd be suprised if the codes come back.&nbsp\\; With the temps that you have you're definetely not running lean or at least not hot.&nbsp\\; I had the XIEDs on my Dyna, but it ran too lean with a 2-1 and upgraded airkit, so I put back on my PCIII.&nbsp\\; I did try the XIEDs with the stock airbox and it ran great, but I wanted the performance of the 2-1.&nbsp\\; J.B.

When any O2 sensor code is set, the ECM will switch to&nbsp\\;open loop control on the offending cylinder and the XIED will be doing zero.&nbsp\\;
&nbsp\\;
The cylinder isn't actually running lean.&nbsp\\; The ECM is&nbsp\\;trying to integrate the average O2 sensor&nbsp\\;voltage&nbsp\\;up to the Bias setting (500-600 mV).&nbsp\\; If the O2 sensor is hot,&nbsp\\;its max voltage will be around 800&nbsp\\;mV.&nbsp\\; Depending on how&nbsp\\;much&nbsp\\;voltage the XIED offsets, it may be possible that the ECM cannot acheive the desired Bias setting.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;The ECM adds fuel until the integration limit, which is hard coded in the ECM.&nbsp\\; Once the integration limit is reached, the ECM sets the code.
&nbsp\\;
My opinion...It will be common to set these codes with the XIED.&nbsp\\;
