Are you using a usb adapter or are you using Vista ? \\;\\\\\\; Neather one of these will work very well for you.
Realizing that this is specific to SERT, which I have no experience with, \\;I've also seen lots of claims that Vista and the USB-serial adapters won't work... that is largely incorrect. I was able to interface with the ThunderMax using my laptop running Vista, coupled with a USB-serial interface from Rat Shack earlier today. Most probably didn't have the joys of working with COM ports to get their modems and other devices to play nice, so they don't understand about conflicts and resolution. When I first coupled the device with the laptop, Vista automatically set the COM port to 4 which couldn't detect the module. I changed it to use COM 7, and it was able to interface and modify the device without further incident. It also worked fine previously with the PC III.

Perhaps Harley's SERT is more antiquated or less sophisticated, but there is no physical reason it shouldn't be able to work with it.

If you have no experience with the SERT Roger but still insist the usb and vista will work with it sure makes you look foolish!

Thank you for the personal attack sir, and on Independence Day no less. Not knowing my qualifications makes you look judgemental, among other things.

IF IT IS WRITTEN TO USE THE RS232 INTERFACE SPECIFICATIONS, THERE IS NO REASON THAT THIS STANDARD RS232 INTERFACE WON'T SUPPLY THE REQUIRED BUS, PERIOD. That is the statement I made, and I'll stick to it.
 \\;\\\\\\;
I've seen numerous posts indicated that the PC III and TMax won't work with it as well, and it is largely from folks unfamiliar with the vagaries of RS232 interface configuration in relation to memory and IRQ conflicts. Those of us who have been working with computers for 20 years or more have likely had to fight through these conflicts time and again. I have a degree in electronics along with 5 years work experience, to the component level, and more computer certifications than I can name to include CNE, OS/2, IBM Lan Manager/Lan Server, MCSE, etc., and have been in IT for over 20 years working for Countrywide Funding, Chevron and Kaiser Permanente, so it is not an area \\;\\\\\\;unfamiliar to me.
 \\;\\\\\\;
So please elighten me as to what is specific and unique to SERT that violates the RS232 interface standards? Please don't hesitate to be specific, as I believe I'll be able to grasp any technical details you wish to share?

Happy Independence Day,
