Ignition/Tuner/ECM/Fuel InjectionNeed advice on ignition issues? Questions about a tuner? Have questions about a EFI calibration or Fuel Injection? Tips on Engine Diagnostics, how to get codes, and what they mean. Find your answers here.
Hey everyone, new member with a starting problem. Looking for some help.
'02 injected Electra Glide. Here's the facts.
1. Bike has been sitting for 2-months.
2. Battery was dead, it is now charged and currently at 12.2v but goes down quickly when cranking.
3. Engine cranks, but won't fire. Not even an initial fire.
4. Have tried several times now have gas/oil leaking from (breather?) when I try to start.
What steps should I take to track this down. Also since I assume an oil change will be required due to fuel contamination from multiple starting attempts.
Any advice would be great. Got a big ride next weekend.
I would suspect a bad battery, assuming all the connections are clean. Just because you have 12 volts doesn't mean you have any amps. Try jump starting it. If that works, go buy a new battery especially if this is the original battery.
AGM batteries don't jump so good. A good battery should read between 13-15 volts but even this is no indication of CCA ability. Have it load tested before going to the next troubleshooting step.

+1 have the battery load tested at an auto parts store or dealer. Don't forget to pull your maxi fuse before removing it. My bet is your battery is just old and weak like me.

Thanks!
Take a 30-60 minute freeway ride and you will burn off the fuel dilution. If you pull the dipstick and it reeks of gas then change the oil. When you get it started get some new fresh fuel in it. Oh yeah, BTW, Welcome to the forum. Go to the new members section and introduce yourself.
