Default Intermittent Start-Power

2006 XLC1200 - I have an intermittent start / power that is getting worse.

Battery cables are tight and clean. I turn on the key and I have power. When I hit start, it will CLICK and then ALL power is lost. I loosen the positive cable and power comes back. I tighten again and it may click and die again or it may start. I have read the forums and found ideas from the battery, cables, connections, starter relay, and something called the switch cover. Any ideas where to start?

I will always here the CLICK before it dies. Once it starts cranking, there doesn't seem to be a shortage of power from the battery and it does start.

I guess what really confuses me is why I lose ALL power.

Thanks for the advice!

Check the GROUND CABLE (Batt - to engine case... Engine case studs do work themselves loose), as well as the Positive Cable to the starter....

Bob, any ideas as what might cause a random engine shut down while riding? Dealer and SOAR (whatever the hell that acronim stands for) have no clue and are of no help? I'm on my own with a bike that dies while riding!

Battery is fine, bad ECM has come to mind, where is the ignition switch plug located? In the steering head?
