Default Power Commander Quick Shifter

I’m getting ready to install the Quick Shifter from Power Commander and was wondering what you guys that are using them set the interrupt at. I see that the range is 50-255ms but I’m looking for a starting point. I’m guessing somewhere around 100-125ms should be a good starting point but anyone with any experience have any suggestions I would appreciate it.

Once you get it done, Give us a FULL review

I have been thinking that might be a fun MOD. Pricey but FUN.

So did you install the HUB? Are you taking advantage of the mutiple maps and gear mapping?

Default First Impression

Well I finally got the Quick Shifter installed last Saturday. As far as the installation goes I had bought the Quick Shifter off of eBay and it was for a bike with forward controls, I have mid controls, so all I had to do was to shorten the shift rod 7”, rethread it, and then bolt it in place of the stock shift rod. After it was bolted in place and the shift lever adjusted to the position I like it needed to be plugged into the Power Commander and the enabled. This is when I ran into a problem. After installing the software that came with the Quick Shifter I headed to the shop laptop in hand to enable the Quick Shifter and set the interrupt time. So now the laptop sees the Power Commander but when I open the software to enable the Quick Shifter I get the message “Power Commander not connected”. Well after too many tries at getting the software to see the Power Commander and way too many beers I give up for the night. Now I go back into the house and send an email to Power Commander Tech support and tell them my problem. Sunday I get up head to the shop with the laptop and after 45 minutes I’m still getting the message “Power Commander not connected” so I give up and go for a ride. Monday when I check my email I find an email from Stan at Dynojet asking me what version software I am using to enable the Quick Shifter. I email him the version number and about 20 minutes later I receive a reply from Stan with the updated software attached. I install the new software, head to the shop, plug in the laptop, enable the Quick Shifter, set the interrupt to 85ms and I’m ready for a test run in less than 5 minutes. Thanks to Stan at Dynojet for the great customer support. Now to the test run. The Quick Shifter works perfectly. My shift light is set at 5800rpm and I’m able to make full throttle shifts at 5800 rpm without any problems. I’ve run it through the gears about a dozen times now and haven’t missed a gear yet. The Quick Shifter isn’t something that most people will need or use but for those of us that want the most out of our bikes I would say it is a must have. I’ll be heading up to the Sacramento drag strip in the morning for test and tune so I’ll be able to report if it has made my bike any quicker when I get back. But for now it has made the bike a lot more fun when running through the gears.

We had a good time at the strip but the weather was lousy. The high temp only got up to 48 degrees so the track conditions were not the best plus we had fog so they only let us run the 1/8 mile and not the 1/4 mile. My bike did make 13 runs down the track that day. I made 10 runs and the guy that went with me made 3 runs. My best time at the 1/8 mile back in August was 7.836@89.505 and 12.407@109.007 at the 1/4 mile and even with the lousy track conditions I was able to improve my 1/8 mile time to 7.180@91.493. I'm looking forward to going back when we can run the whole 1/4 mile. I have attached a picture that was taken at the start line and you can see the fog down at the end of the track. As far as the Quick Shifter and the shift light go, for anyone that likes to hotrod I would say they are both must haves. I have the shift light set at 5700rpm and the interrupt on the Quick Shifter is set at 85MS and both worked flawlessly.

That's a pretty good improvement.

Clutchless shifting can be deadly on the shift dogs.

So that shifter wires into the Power Commander.
I'm using the SERT.

May go to an Auto Shifter if I decide to drop a thousand (or so) for serious fun........
to get serious I would need a solid wheel, strip tire, chain drive, gearing change, shifter, wheelie bars, etc

Right now, I think the traction loss I have is a good thing
so I don't break things.

Some good info here........
http://www.battsracing.com/tech.html

Out of curiousity I went out to the drag strip for the first time after 40 years.

Curious what my HQ 120 inch Dyna would clock on a street tire with an inexperienced rider.

First run I screwed it up all the way........
lifted the front a couple feet off the line,
spun the tire big time shifting to second,
hit the rev limiter in third,
turned in a 12.4

Second run I thought I did pretty good at 12.01 and 115 mph
(even though I hit the rev limiter again approaching the traps).

After that run the track got ugly at the line.

I'm gonna go out again this Wednesday cause I wanna see 11 something.
Should be doable if I can get my 60 foot time down...........
