Default Complete electrical loss

I am having an electrical problem on a 2004 Fatboy with EFI. I turn it on and press the starter and all electric is lost. I hear the starter click one time before the electric disappears. Eventually the lights and console will come back (after a few hours). The battery tests out to 12.5 volts so it seems good. I think the ground is ok because I tested the voltage on various points of the frame. Plus the electric seems to come back for no reason.

It Does anyone have an idea of a component that could be causing this problem? Could it be related to a fuse or the ECM?

Thanks for the help.

If it comes back, I'd rule out a fuse. Just to be sure, though, I would check the battery fuse/breaker. It's the big one in the rear fender (under the ECM).

i add to what bent wrench said. check your cables. also check all of your grounds at the battery, at the starter, at the frame and at the voltage regulator. any one of those grounds could possibly cause this. if your cables get hot, that is a sure fire way to tell one of your grounds are at fault.

Default Problem solved

Thanks everyone. The problem was lip on the battery that didn't allow full contact with the battery post. Moved the cables to the top of the battery posts corrected the problem.
