My 1999 Softail died on me in some high heat last week, a few days before this incident I noticed when I hit my starter I could hear the solenoid do its thing and the starter just spun...
So I took the initiative to figure out the problem to my starter, Oil tank removed primary removed, take the starter down to my local Cycle nut and he bench tests the starter, I did take the solenoid and generator apart and clean all contacts as well, He benches it with an ld battery and gets every thing working fine with only 6 volts on an old battery.
So I read about voltage regulator issues and start switch issues. Could I have a power problem?I did purchase a new battery based on the stalling in the heat last week, Now I am leaning to maybe a power regulator is not keeping 12volts across the wire or a bad contact somewhere. I thought I would share this and get some input. I have my Hog on block torn apart and plan to test the starter and solenoid today by itself for correct adjustment on the fly wheel if this works then I will start testing electrical contacts. ANY INPUT WOULD BE GREAT.
