Posting for a friend

So my friend has an 80's sporty. To be short and sweet, it wont hold a charge. He's changed the generator, battery, and checked all the fuses. I dont know a terrible amount about the bike but I was curious if you guys knew of any obvious problems. If he charges the battery, he can ride for about 50 miles without problems. After that if he shuts the bike off, it wont start again since the battery seems to be dead.

I know its not alot of info so if you need to know anything else let me know and I'll get ahold of him.

How old is the battery? A bad battery won't hold a charge.
