Default voltmeter question

is it normal for the voltmeter to dip down to 10 or less when stopped at a light with the brake on and turnsignals flashing? as soon as i pull away the voltmeter goes to 14.

That does seem a bit low. How old is your battery? How is the fluid level in the cells?

Don't trust that Gauge.....

It is NOT CALIBRATED.....

Hook up a DVOM (Digotal Volt-Ohm Meter).... Load the system (Turn EVERYTHING on)....

your batt voltage should be 13 to 13.5 vdc @ 1000 rpm (Idle).....

As your RPM's increase, so should the voltage to the batt.....

IF IT DOES NOT RAISE, This will tell you that the Regulator or Stator is failing....

If this pans out, check voltage before and after a lengthy ride (50 miles)....

Load the system as much as possible (High beam, lots of T/S, Radio [if applicable])....

if voltage is same or lower, your batt is failing....

Minor edit above in bold....

If the idle RPM is too low it will also effect the charging system output, even when the battery and charging system
are in good condition. This is why fuel injected Baggers are programmed to idle at 1000 RPM.
Like Shovelhead Bob said, never assume the factory gauge is correct.
That said, you could have a battery or charging system problem if if idle is O.K..

i've come to the conclusion the voltage regulator is at fault. battery shows correct voltage. stator voltage increases with rpm. battery shows no increase with rpm. no short to ground from stator. do you all agree? also bike blows circuit breaker intermitently next to the battery when brakes and turnsignals are applied. voltmeter dips to 10. battery is new and fully charged.
