I was told that if I put SEII slip-ons on my 05 Standard and didn't change anything else that I would be O.K. But know someone else has told me that if I don't get the PCIII or something like it I am going to burn up my engine because they run so lean from the factory. Now my real problem. I'm U.S. Airforce in Germany, with the exchange rate were it is the PCIII is going to cost me $500 the install at the HD dealership $100, and then another $350 to do the mapping. $950 total. I've seen the PCIII on e-bay for $298 and I have a nice Laptop. How scary a job would it be to do it myself? Thank's in advance for any help you all can give. Michael
The sky probably really isn't falling. Factory settings are indeed a little lean, and anything (like pipes) that helps flow more air will lean things a little more. Installing the PCIII isn't scary at all. Physically, it's a matter of just plugging it in; Dynojet has very good tutorials that come with the unit. Then use the PC to add a little fuel.
That said, there are cheaper ways to add fuel. The Digital Fuel Optimizer (also known as the TFI) is very inexpensive and user friendly, and the unit itself (no laptop necessary) can be used to add fuel in the low, middle, and high rpm ranges. Other similar units are also available. So if all you want to do is to add pipes or an air cleaner, one of these or a similar unit will do the trick, and even with the exchange rate, you should be out the door for under $200.
You can buy a PCIII on the internet all day long for just under $300. When you order the unit you tell them the type of bike, year, type of pipes and air cleaner and they program the unit before they send it to you. It also comes with a disk with all the MAPS currently out. You can also go on the Dynojet site and download any new MAPS that come out.
The PCIII took me 20 minutes of head scratching and 3 minutes to hook up and put into operation. Really makes a difference on performance and how hot the new bikes run. If you do not have the right MAP just post here and thousands of people that have all ready worked out the problem will be glad to help. good luck. I miss Europe spent 15 years over there. Jeff
For that much money I would get the sert .My 2000 95 RG trashed 2 pc 3 with in a month . I beleave it was caused from the crapy harly down loads my bike has.I havent found a good din shop yet.
The 1550 stage one download works fairly well on a stock 88(1450) that has SE pipes & or Air cleaner. To add fuel only, check www.Techlusion.com They make a EFI box that will add fuel, like installing larger jets on a carb.It costs less than $200 & you can install it yourself.Regards,Tom
