Bill,

Everyone with an EFI bike should have a Power Commander. To get it tricked out the way you want it you should have it Dyno'd. They have some good downloads thru the Power Commander website and a good Dyno Tech can tweak that baby so you can "Ride It Like You Stole It."

installation of the powercommander is amazimgly simple. its basically as easy as just plugging it in. instructions are simply and straight forward, and i think you will love it.

Although I didn't install mine, I have looked at the installation very carefully and you'll find it a "plug and play" deal, I believe. I assume you have a laptop and will be able to upload a suitable map into the PC (PC=power commander). There are a bunch of pre-done maps at their web site. Speaking of PC's, the head tech at our local Harley shop kind of "poo-poo's" a dino tune - he's from the old school, but, let me elaborate - his reasoning isn't too off the wall. In order to build or to tweak a stock map, there are perhaps a hundred points in the map that must be displayed and tweaked to get a customized map for each engine. There are the low RPM points, and the mid, and then the high rpm points. According to the tech, (remember, he is in his 60's and has been a HD guy for the past 30 years), he claims that the little additional benefit you gain from a stock map is totally outweighed by the excessive wear and tear on the bike being subjected to a "tortuous" dino run. He claims that he is usually covered with rubber from the excessive tire wear (made me wonder if the dino was operating correctly) and the heat generated by the engine (despite being force air cooled) will almost always require the HD to shut down in the middle of the test to allow it to cool - certainly, to me, not a good situation. So, unless the PC is causing undo engine problems with a stock map, he does not recommend it. What's the concensus out there?

Ted,

I watched them Dyno my bike last year and got in on the end of it this year and I don't know how your HD Tech does it but mine didn't resemble that at all. Rev it a few times, let off and read computer. Type a little and rev again. Let it idle, Take it to mid range and read computer and type some more. Didn't smell any rubber and the tech never had to stop in the middle of the run.

I have been in a couple of Dyno Drags and that is a whole different story. Redline, burn rubber and hope you don't blow your engine.

Thanks, Terry. I have to wonder if the guy wasn't just talking - Battlefield Harley has never indicated it is a bad idea to dynotune.
