Default Fuel Gauge

The fuel gauge on my fatboy always reads a full tank. Only when i shut her down does the fuel gauge go to empty. Has anyone else had this problem. I keep track with my odo. which is fine by me. Its a pain in the *** but I hate to give up my bike for a week to get some dumb repair done.

I'd say you have a bad fuel gauge. Never had that happen with mine. Isn't your bike relatively new?

The float can get stuck on something in the tank, I forget what it is, but if you have F.I., you can remove the dash, pump plate and you may have to bend it. Is it out of warrentee?

05 FatBoy. Same problem since I got it. Same deal I hate to have it sitting at the dealer. so I will wait for my first service. Also My security light never goes off. 700miles on the OD.

I had the same problem with my 05 Heritage. The dealer adjusted the float at N/C.

sounds like something to adress when you take it in for regular service!! im with you i wouldnt want to go with out my new ride!!

Had the same problem (05 fatboy); took it to the dealer for something more severe and asked them to fix this as well. They said the float seemed to be mounted the wrong way and simply reversed it, has worked perfectly ever since.
I've read on forums that bending the float arm also works....

On my EG, the stupid thing sits at full until about 120 miles or so, then it slips off pretty rapidly, until it is on E at about 175...I can get a full 200 out of it, though, it makes me nervous when the little fuel light is on.

You really have to wonder whether or not these guys who design fuel gauges ever took a course on how to calibrate them! Although I must say my two 4 wheeled vehicles have pretty decent accuracy.

I have an '05 Fatboy and didn't have this problem. The only problem I've had with the bike is the dealer lying to me about everything including the current weather. Thus, I take my bike to another dealer for service from now on. It sure seems that what I have experienced and what I read here that Harley has poor dealer quality control and accountability. I f--king hate liars, especially Harley Davidson Dealers. Other than that, I love my Fatboy and R 1200 RT BMW. One is as good as the other, just apples and oranges.

WAITER!!!....another glass of wine please!!
