SERT -- Auto re-set?
Within the past 200-300 miles, I've noticed that the "pops" and backfires on deceleration seem to be back like they were before the dyno. (I now have about 10,600 miles on the bike.)
Can a bike do an "auto re-set" of the F/I mapping? Can it automatically reprogram itself to factory spec's? Or can it go "out of tune" without anything being done to the bike?
Wondering.... Maybe it is just my imagination on the "pops".... Suggestions?
Thanks in advance....
Tod
Also, you could have sprung an intake or exhaust leak, which will cause a Lean Condition......
Once you have a Race Tuner installed, there is no "Limp Home Mode", it is a set Fuel/Ign/MAP setup....
Thanks for the quick reply. I understand the seasoning of the mufflers. (BTW, they are the Samson Rolled Thunder Ovals -- I've heard Samson has this characteristic...)
I've had it checked for leaks, and it was adjusted for a minor one back at 5K. I may request that it be checked again at the 12,500 maint.
Will this be doing any damage to the bike to have it popping on decel? I'm not trying to make it do it, but it is an inadvertent response to the downshifting and clutch release to slow the bike. Let me know on this point. Thanks.
If it is too lean (as an example - 18 :1), you will burn a hole in your piston.... Not right away, but sooner rather than later.....
Fuel, believe it or not, is also cooling the combustion chamber and exhaust tract.....
Proper A/F is critical to longevity of an Air Cooled motor.....
And yes, Samsons are notorious for turning into drag pipes after a while.....
You can always run a bolt in the baffle mount and place a few hex nuts and washers in there.....
Increase the backpressure and see if that is the culprit.....
Again, thanks for such a quick reply. Will consider these suggestions.
OR -- what I just may do is what I've wanted all along ... Order the V & H slip-on ovals off e-bay and be done with it... The Samsons were dealer installed when I bought the bike new. While they weren't my first choice, they have been okay. That is, until now -- if they are the culprit.
Other than the V & H's, any suggestions on the good, low, full sound w/o being obnoxious? (Yes, I have read all the threads on slip-on's ad infinitum, ad nauseum, and still like the V & H's from what I've heard in person...)
Thanks. I'll check for your suggestions in the a.m. -- and if I don't get back to you here, know that I've retrieved your information from direct copy to my e-mail.

Well built too.... and are good sounding.....
If I were you, I'd do the switch....
Better quality with the V&H over the Samsons also....
Thanks again. I assume that with the change of pipes, I will also have to have the bike dyno'd again for fine tuning. Correct assumption on my part?
Oh, and any other suggestions on securing the V & H Ovals slip-ons for a good price other than e-bay?
Thanks.

If you have not already done so, get a SE, K&N or simular air filter before your next dyno.
I got my V&H Big Radius pipes on ebay and saved almost $200.00 and they are new in a sealed box.
