electrical problem?
my ride is an 85 electra glide classic. coming home yesterday in hot weather the bike started acting funny, the tach went from 3000 rpm to 5000 rm at 110 kph. igot it home and stopped it to cool and this morning it is dead. i put the battery on charge {new gel battery last year}, left it a few hours went out turned the ignition on and the dash lights came on and went right out again, and no power to turn over, nothing. so i hooked a jump battery and got full ignition back and lights but not enough juice to start it. any ideas? thanks

56 Harley can you let me what you come up with to fix this problem? on my 89 Flht dresser the bike did the same identical thing as yours>> I replaced the 3 -15amp circuit breakers and the 30 amp main c/b and all the lights and blinkers came back until I hit the starter switch and everything went dead>> if you wait for a few minutes and try the ignition switch again the oil and nuetral light come back on real slow and dim and then jump to full bright but when you hit any switch it all goes dead again>>> thanks for a reply

finally figured out the problem with my bike my 21 month old harley gel battery was no good>> if I were you I would take your gel battery down to Sears they will run a load test on it for free>>this might save you some major headaches & trouble shooting time only to find out your battery is no good>>>the battery man told me the HEAT & vibrations take thier toll after about a year or year and a 1/2 hope this helps
