I have an 06 Dyna with the closed loop fuel injection. It has thunderheader and SE air cleaner. It also has a Revtech DFO which I'm currently not real happy with.I've had it back to the shop that installed it twice, read the instructions three times cover to cover and they might as well be written in Hebrew. The problem is I get allot of Decel popping it runs great as long as your accelerating or cruising at freeway speeds but when your lugging it around town at low RPMs to keep the noise down it backfires damn near every time you roll off the gas.The DFO for the 06 Dyna is different from previous models according to the instructions the low RPM cruise mode is controlled by the O2 sensors and cannot be adjusted. What I'm wondering is would it be wothwhile to try a Harley race download on top of the DFO or should I toss it and get a SERT or PC3?
I have a DFO on my 05 Ultra and I have a SERT on my 06 Streetbob, If I wouldn't already have the 05 traded in it would also have a SERT tune in it. I thought the DFO was alright until I had experienced them both for a while. Comparing a DFO to a SERT is like comparing a bicycle to a Harley. Cut your losses now and go with the SERT, that is if you can tune it yourself or know of someone who can.
I notice you have an 05.The people I know who have the earlier versions of the DFO or pretty much anything but an 06 Dyna love thier DFOs.All the independant mechanics I talked to love the DFO.The only one that recomended the SERT was at the Harley Dealer .What I'm wondering now is is it worth it to buy the SERT to get the bike running a little bit smoother or should I forget about it and buy some cams.
The DFO/TFI's are tough to tune on the 06 bikes. Trust me on this.
There is a fight going on between the closed loop ECM's narrow band sensor trying to pull the mixture one way (usually leaner) and the TFI trying to make it richer. SERT eliminates this and tames the unusally wide closed loop areas.
The only thing you might try is adding more fues to the cruise/green setting if you hang on the the DFO.

No can do, cruise mode is not adjustable on the DFO for the 06 Dyna.A Harley download to the tune of $169 MIGHT fatten up the low end enough to smooth it out, another thing it WILL do is bump up my rev limiter to 6200? RPMs another thing the DFO for the 06 can't do, that I'm aware of, like I said I only read the instructions three times.I'm weighing spending 169 to maybe get it running better or spending $700+ to get it running right.
