OK, this idiot who tuned my bike says he can't fix it! Can't rid the ping, decel pop etc.(no leaks or bad gaskets etc) doesn't have the time... The Azzzzhole took my $$ but can't tune it properly. I've been dealing with these issues for 1 1/2 years now. I'm convinced this X NHRA participant of 30 years and cycle shop owner has no clue how to work on Harley's, though they deal with many HD's. Is there such a thing as an untunable bike? Yes, it's the one in my sig and the joke who tuned it! Now I have to spend twice as much to hopefully find someone who can either deliver a good running bike, or someone else who can steal my hard earned $$.It's sad a tune will cost more than twice as much as the $$ I spent on the TTS!
When I roll on the GO from 2800-3000 R's in 4th and above, she lights off, even in lower gears at time under a load climbing a grade. I've eliminated fuel, that is not the issue here, plugs age gaped correct..
I just got to say, anyone in the Reno area, please do yourself a favor and avoid Yuill Bros, AKA Freedom Cycles.
A lot of stories here of less than good results from a dyno tuner, and then there are stories of shops that spend 8 hours on a problem bike to make it run properly, and get it done. Sometimes you just need to do it yourself.
If you can hook up the TTS and record data you may be able to locate the parameters where it pings and take some timing out there, but you would think the tuner already did this. No vacuum leaks, right?

I hear what your saying, but lack the confidence of doing it myself and the ability, If this clown can't do it, even with a Dyno, I sure in hell can't!
I said to him, why won't or doesn't it show up on the Dyno?? Got the deer in the headlight look! He said he tried taking out Timing and even shut down closed loop.....
No Vacuum leaks.

He said he tried taking out timing and doesn't know what the problem is.. Simple, I think it's him! I think it's just an excuse to not spend the necessary time for this particular bike, even if it is a problem bike/job.
If you have the TTS unit why not just save the tune/map the tuner did onto your laptop and load one of the stock TTS tunes for your bike. Then use the Datamaster software and do a data log to check for fast knock retard. If everything is okay, then move forward from that point.
If you can read the dyno tuned map, maybe start by copying the VE tables and pasting them into the new map. Do a data run and confirm no knock. Not sure if you changed cams but if you did, see if one of the stock TTS maps has the timing for those cams. Copy and paste those tables next and do a data run. And so on....
I know it sucks to have paid a so called expert but who hasn't pissed a few hundred dollars away at least once. Heck we all bought $20K bikes that don't run right without us messing with them.
I didn't bother to have that one saved to a thumb drive, as I had no confidence in this joker from past experience. I'll call tomorrow to see if this clown can somehow e mail me the recent tune. Those are the only mods I have on a stock bike.

If you had no confidence in him from past experiences, why did you go back?
My name is Doc I own and run HDMD Tuning Center LLC where we instruct Dealerships in Proper EFI Tuning, Performance Engine Building, and Dyno Operations and lastly we build Tune Hi Performance Harley Engine for Street and Strip. We have 37 years experience in this industry and knowledge to share here with you all.
Glad to be on a site I haven't seen before....now that I got on I got to get this old body to bed.
Doc is the best and a great tuner that teaches the TTS across the nation. I think it's too early to call Doc though.
Personally I think the OP has the wrong calibration map and simply needs to take a deep breath and start over.
He says his throttle roll-on over 2800 RPM's are fine but he has decel pop and ping. He stresses the ping issue. Well, with the Rineharts he is going to loose some low and mid range torque and if they are shorties then his exhaust reversion will make it pop but these things can be worked out on the map.
His pinging issue could either be the bike (which I hope not) or the spark tables, it could be the starting map calibration was wrong and has the wrong cam dynamics in the software. This too would be an easy fix but we need to know what map he has and I, for one, would love to see a copy of it.
