Default SEST Vs. SEPT Question

In the SE Catalog..there is a SE Street Performance Tuner listed as well as a SE Pro Super Tuner. The units look identical but have different part numbers, neither comes with cables, and the Super Tuner says Software is a separate purchase. What is the difference between the two units?

Also, it says that the Pro Super Tuner software has "Smart Tune" where you load a map that is close, drive, then review and are given the recommend optimum settings to use. Has anyone used this with a non HD setup such as an AMS Big Bore or S&S kit? If so, how did you like it? Was it easy to use?

SEStreet (Street Performance) only has the capacity to load EPA, street legal calibrations. You can also do data monitoring and AFV reset.

SEPro (Super Tuner) does the same but has the functions to let you recalibrate your tuning tables and has the smart tune function.

If you are going to choose between these two and want to dyno of some type then you will need the Super Tuner.

The original SERT (SE Race Tuner) was made by The Turbo Shop or TTS. The old SERT is now called the TTS but with many more upgrades and features.

The SEPro has most of the abilities of the TTS but the SEStreet has very few abilities.

Sounds like I got screwed and just realized it. I told the dealer I wanted a race tuner for my 10 RG and got a SEStreet plus charged for dyno tune. Can the SEStreet be updated by TTS?

Being screwed can be subjective. You may have just what you need if you are not a hands on person or plan few modification to your bike. There are many who simply purchase a tuner and have the dealer Dyno. They are happy campers and you could fall into that group, don't know.

If you had planned for future modifications and doing the tuning work yourself or simply just wanted more features and abilities to squeeze out every HP/TQ you can then, yes, I feel your pain.

You asked if the SEStreet can be updated by the TTS. The SEStreet, like all other flash tuners, simply takes a new calibration and overwrites what is on the ECM. The TTS can do the same to your ECM and overwrite a calibration put on to the ECM by any other means or tuner including the SEStreet.

What you face now is whether to upgrade and spend more cash or be happy with what you have.

Hope that made sense.

Thanks wiz, I was planning on either cams or 103/107 and cams this winter or spring. I should have checked I guess but I told them I wanted the SERT. The SEStreet does sound much different than a downlaod and I shouldn't have payed for the dyno time.

This is what I am seeing.. me being the big mouth lately and seems I have too much time on my hands.

Unspecified, unrecognized terminology between too many people can get very confusing when it comes to acronyms. You said SERT to the dealer and he took for granted you wanted a SE Tuner. The parts guys can't sell the SEPro anymore at many locations. They have been told to sell only the SEStreet so your service guy runs with it. He, being in the HD business "should" have said to you, I'm sorry but the SERT is not available anymore, here are your choices. Instead he put on what he recognized to be what you specified.

The ABC's of acronyms "should" be known by the dealership. What is a TTS, a SEPro, a SEStreet or a PCV... the list goes on. He simply took for granted and he would put on what his boss has told him to at the last meeting without your consent. On the other hand, it is up to the customer to recognize what it is that he really wants so he can convey his wishes properly.

No, not beating you up or trying to be snippy. I simply wish more research would be done before money is spent and more care is taken by some dealers. Now you've spent all this cash for only half of what you really intended to get.

Darn economy is tough enough without walking down the wrong yellow brick road, or being served a double cheese burger when you ordered a chicken nugget combo. See, I told ya I had too much time on my hands.

You are absolutely right. I beating myself up over this dumb mistake I made. I should have joined the forum before I bought my new bike and I could have saved myself alot of headaches, but live and learn and keep someone else from screwing up. I may go talk to the dealer and at least let him know what happened. I guess I will check with TTS to see if it is upgradeable.
