timing marks for 61 pan

Default timing marks for 61 pan

i have 3 timing marks on the fly wheel of my 61 pan running mallory electronic ingition shop manual says time with front advance mark but says about a f-t mark on the fly wheel trying to bike running again seems to be firing to soon

Are setting the distributor too full retard before you try to crank?

not sure what you mean i put the flywheel mark at full advance and droped the dist in at full advance had the dist put in a year ago bacause of hard starting problems still have them but now it aint starting have spark dont think its enough thank you

I hope you are using a H-D manual. I am trying to remember this correctly and it has been 5 years since I sold my Pan. Time the front cylinder first. There was an error in the service manual that I had. The timing mark should be centered in the window on the correct valve (Intake? don't remember for sure). The distributor in the retarded position will now line up as shown in the manual, and advancing it will also line up as shown in the manual. If it doesn't line up you are either 180 degrees off or 1 tooth off depending on how the distributor was dropped the previous time. Hope this helps. Jeff T
