just installed the tmax unit and will hook it up in the morning, my pc does not have the serial port, I bought a converter from bestbuy, it comes with a small disc ? is this a pain to install? im not very computer savy,,,ive watched the youtube vids and read the owners manual, but it seems easy to screw things up,
nothing special about my bike mods, but I want to make sure its running right, 06 street bob, 88", thunderheader, zippers max AC, 25 degree injectors, removed the epa cannister....
any advice on getting the software installed and loaded into the bike would be great.....
I think I have the same cable because I remember that little disk that came with it. No problem installing it.
I printed out the manual and put it in a 3 ring binder. Just follow it step by step the first couple of times. Dog ear and highlight the important stuff so that its easier next time. I love being able to hook up the lap top and make changes any time I want. Great product. You'll love it after you use it a couple if times and get used to it.
Those serial to USB adapters can sometimes be difficult. There can be two issues when installing one. First, you can mess up serial ports already assigned on the computer. Second, you can have difficulty in getting a serial port assigned to the adapter.
How well it goes may depend on the age of your computer, BIOS and operating system.
I'm not saying you'll have a problem, I'm just saying instructions are great as long as everything goes smoothly. My experience with some older laptops and serial/USB adapters have been mixed. Some go well, others not so much.
You should be able to just plug in the usb adapter and then go to device manager. Then click on the + next to usb controllers and see it listed with a yellow ? next to it.Then double click on it and click the driver tab make sure you conected to the net then click on update driver your computer should then find and install the driver needed and then reconize the adaper. Hope this helps.
Thankks for the advice, i installed the software as well as the converter, loaded everything up and no problems, I am amazed how much better the bike runs, soooo much cooler, starts faster, runs fantastic... I rode the snot out of it yesterday, im sold on the benifits of the Tmax.... I'll run it for awhile and then hook it back up and see whats really going on. Im gonna be doing cams in the next week or so and will let ya'll know how that works out Tuning wise...
Glad to hear good reviews of the Thundermax, Once I amass the upgrade parts im going to get this also. Just a question what laptops are you all running to do the downloads and programing for the autotune. what size and operating systems are you using.. thanks
I just bought a brand new HP, i beleive it the I640, with windows 7 premium home...
I wish the Tmax used standard USB, not a big deal to use a converter,
Also if installing the Tmax on a dyna make sure you get the 8" pigtail,

If you dont get the short pigtail, the long lead that attatches the tmax to the pc cannot be removed after install, i used the long lead and dont like how it gets coiled up and hid behind the elect/fuse box cover,
The install is pretty easy, the software install is alittle tougher, im a knucklehead and if i can do it almost anyone should have no trouble......
