Default 1550's Run Rich?

A service mgr told me today that approx 1/2 of the EFI 1550's that they build run rich w/just the stock ECM handling the fuel. This seems very counterintuitive to me & I told him so. He said, "We're not talkin' carbs here!" Still, more air/same fuel table seems like it'd run way lean to this EFI newbie. Have you guys seen this happen & if so, how's this possible?

Sounds like BS. If he is talking about the stock ECM after being Stage flashed for the 1550, I could believe that. Was he trying to sell you a SERT? No surprise if he was.

It was running rich w/stock ECM & low on power. I had them flash the ECM w/a stageII DL & it's a little better but still running rich & not making power it should. Something weird goin on w/it & I'm thinking fuel pump and/or wet sumping. An indy has it now & supposed to start on it Monday.

IMO, you need SERT or PCIII and dyno tune.

I agree 2005, but there's something else going on here & I want to get it straightened out before I get yet another tune on my PCIII usb.

Vic. hope it all turns out OK. I am waiting for one head to return. FedEx bounced it & broke a fin when delivered to Big boyz. Had to send it back to Diamond Cut to be fixed. I am leaning towards the SERT for my bike as claims seem to be they can adjust each cylinder for fuel & ignition. Let us know .

I have a 2000 SE Roadglide with the factory 95. I was told the same thing by my tuner. When I changed to my Rineharts and stage II air cleaner my bike did not have to be adjusted for running lean. I did have the SERT installed and got it dyno tuned to dial it in but it was not running lean at all. It was still a little on the rich side. That's the way the early ones came out of the factory.
