I have a 2006 Softail Standard. It was sitting in a barn for 3 years. I recently got it back and did a complete fluid change, with new spark plugs and wires. The issue I am having is, I am noticing that it backfires alot more when I let off the throttle. When I purchased it back in 06, I had a stage I kit and V&H Big Radus pipes put on and the fuel system re-mapped. I am wondering since it was in storage for so long with out power going to the system that the system might of reset. But I can not locate anything out there stating that it will do this.
I do not want to waste 200 to get it re-mapped if its not the problem. But can someone tell me if it will reset or not. Thank
The bike needs time to analyze the exhaust gasses and compensate. This will take a few on/off cycles.
Ride it for a week as you usually do and it should clear itself up.
Fuel injected bikes have the ability to "learn". Yours just need to re-learn. If it hasn't cleared up in a week or so of daily riding then take it in.
my buddy just got his hands on a 2005 E- glide with 1,255 miles, that were put on in 2005.
we put new battery in, drained and put new gas and changed the oil. Fired up and was doing the same thing. We added a bit of Sea Foam and he has been riding it fine now for the past couple months.
I agree with the learn thing, but add some injector cleaner wouldn't hurt incase there is some clogging going on.
