Battery tender cable

Battery tender cable
Tender cable (pigtail) shorted out on my Uncles 1993 FLHS on the starter. He cut the cable and road 20 miles. We had to push start it. Made it back home and it seems to be charging now. I think he might have just screwed up the battery. Any other ideas? TIA.....

Got all the old pigtail off. It was melted all the way to the pos. battery terminal. Put a new pig tail on and it is taking a charge. He's gonna ride it tomorrow and see if any thing else is screwed up....
