ive been having some acceleration issues (https://www.hdforums.com/forum/sport...elerating.html) and went to check the spark plug cables today.
3 of 4 of them read between 4 and 4.5 on a multimeter, which seems good to me (my multimeter reads in ranges 200, 2k, 20k... so i put it on 20k). but 1 of the cables didnt read at all, on any range (up to 2M); i only got the OL (overload) code on my meter. it also happens to be the only cable that i believe is over about 18" (its about 24").
could this be causing acceleration problems? would the bike run with only 3 of 4 spark plug firing? i figure it would, just bein sure.
It would run like crap. Set your meter to a smaller scale, like 2k. You should be able to get a read then. If not, go to lowest scale and check for continuity. If you don't see reading there it's Toast. On my flhtc, I have a 19" plug wire and in spec ohms range from 4750 to 11077 ohms. So it would be harder to get accurate reading set to 20k. Some meters will not show anything if you are in the wrong scale. Anyway, good luck!
i tried on every setting, and still no reading. i would up at an HD dealership and they gave me a pretty sweet deal on a whole new set of screamin eagle spark plug cables, so i decided id replace them all. it already sounds better and different, but im still knee deep in acceleration issues and have put new gaskets on the intake manifold...blahblahblah. anyways, i think things improved, but problems arent totally solved. thanks for yalls help regarding the cables.
