got my regulator swapped fine, and it took awhile but we think we found the issue. the amp rating on the light is less than the bikes light output. theyre looking to aee if harley techs have a resistor part number for me, and if not, I'll go get one myself for it. it is not a plug n play light so far!
the instructions say there may be a difference. the bike light is sposed to be around 5-6 amps and the like runs between 3 and 3.8 or sonething in that area.
what about your other post where someone mentioned they had the same problem and it was reversed pins on a connector that resolved the issue and that certainly makes sense to me from a technical standpoint.

LED using less current(amps) than the stock headlight should not be an issue. In fact it's usually considered better.
LED's are light emitting diodes, I don't think it would work at all if polarity is reversed. correction, they could use diode network to allow operation if polarity at the connector is reversed.
Have you or anyone else measured the voltage to the LED. Some electronics have built in protection for over/under voltage conditions and will shut themselves down. The fact that it shuts down faster when the bike is running makes me suspect this along with the known problems with the 2012 regulators.
