04 Fat Boy won't start - P1004 code
I can't order just the main male side of the plug because Harley has discontinued the part. so, because of that I ordered the new part which eliminates the inner connector to the plug and instead runs directly to the pump assembly.
Oh well...this better be the solution!
I will have to add the new fastener screws to the plate, a gasket, and he said something about a clip to an inner fuel line if I want to disconnect it to make the install easier.
Not sure what to expect having never opened the fuel tank before.
I know I'll have to decompress the system. I recall reading that you must remove the fuel pump fuse, run the bike till it stalls then open the plate...but how can I do that if the bike doesn't run?
Also, should I empty the tank? I think it's pretty much full.

I really appreciate it.
I won't get the part for a few days, but in the meantime, I'm sure I'll come up with more stuff to run by you guys!
Thanks again.
First, thanks for the input for my issue with my fuel pump.
At the end of the day, I ordered and received the new fuel tank connector kit, which really ended up just being the plug at the top of the gas tank plate like I wanted but the guy at the parts desk told me was no longer available.
He said it was a plug with the inner tank wire harness attached...which it wasn't.
All the better.
It was pretty straightforward, and I didn't really even have to pull the fuel pump out of the tank. I just released and wedged the plate, unhooked the metal push clasp holding the plug assembly, and replaced the plug with the new one. The hardest part was unplugging the inner harness. I had to use a needle to release it, but after that, it was all good.
The bike then started right up, I rechecked and tightened up the ignition switch connections which was the whole reason this all happened, and it's back on the trail.
Thanks again!
