Default Engine light?

I haven't noticed this before, but today I started my bike, and the little engine looking light came on for like 5 to 10 seconds and then went off. It does this every time I start the bike now. After it is started, it isn't on, then it comes on and then goes off after 5 to 10 seconds. is this normal and I just haven't ever noticed it or is this a code telling me something? Oil levels are fine and bike runs great. I just noticed it after I had rode in the rain for 3 hours straight! :-(

Shot in the dark here but I would think its supposed to do that. It does it in cars as well as a self check. Maybe you just never noticed it before.

Did you hit rain again on the way home from Poteau? Sure was nice headin' back my way!

That is an understatement. Severe Storms on the way home as soon as I hit I-40 and it never let up. It sucked. [:@]

Any, thought maybe I just never saw the light before, but it is throwing me off because when I turn on the ignition, the fuel pump kicks in and the tach/speedo calibrate along with the engine light going on and then off. Then when I hit the starter and start the bike, after the bike starts it then comes on again for 5 to 10 seconds and goes off. I don't remember it doing it after the bike started before, just always before when the speedo/tach and fuel pump kicked on.

Hmmmmmmmmm.

Hey Ted, Assuming you don't have a rain soaked switch or something, you set a code, try this proceedure to the "T" and it will tell what is wrong, it could be something as simple as a bad start. https://www.hdforums.com/m_64805/tm.htm
