I have a 2009 Dyna and have the same issue. Bike cuts out from time to time. Sometimes its within the first 5 miles of the ride and other times its after the bike has been ridden for a while. Previously it has always started right back up after you flip the kill switch to off and then back to run.
Recently it has given me problems when starting. Example: I rode 25 miles without an issue and then pulled into a gas station. After filling up it would not start. After leaving it sit for about 5 minutes it fired right up. I rode it across the street (my destination) and parked the bike for over an hour. When I went to leave, it would not start. On about the 20th try it fired up. Then it ran most of the day except for one cut out while riding.
My DTC codes show an error of P1351 & P1354. This tells me that there is a potential coil issue.
I have checked and recheck every wire that I can see and find no chaffing or loose grounds.
Could this be as simple as a bad coil? In the past when a coil went bad for me it just went bad. IT was never intermittent like this. Could the DTC code be from running my battery to low earlier in the season?
hello all. ok ive taken my 2003 road glide to 3 shops 2 of which where harley dealers. they always find something to reair but not the problem of which i took it in for. usually after sitting my bike starts right up but recently sometimes i have to remove the plugs brush them off and reinstall to fire up. once i do that on occasion (again sometimes she fires right up) she fires up. the problem 1 is of course if plugs are filing its running rich i assume. 2nd after my bike warms at stops it shuts off. i do not lose electrical power. the idle starts to drop and eventually it shuts off ONLY after riding and bike is warm. it does not appear to have any leaks at the intake that was checked at the first shop. second shop says needs mapping harley dealer 3rd shop harley dealer replaced old lines in my tank and says when they have it it doesnt drop under 10 at idle. i bring bike home thinking its repaired next thing you know its shutting off after warm and now having trouble starting hence having to brush off plugs at times to fire up. also if i keep the throttle moving at stop revving it will stay running.
im no mechanic i explained to the dealers i think its temp related because it only does it when warm. i purchased my bike may 2016 and it already had a tuner installed that i do not have the key for and it also has compression release buttons on top of the heads
thanks for any suggestions and or advice in advance also appreciate those that took the time to read my book

Tell us about your bike. Does it have non factory pipes? What about the air cleaner? Is it a high flow non factory air cleaner? Do you have a FuelPak or similar custom tuning device in it?

So The coil was tested and it is fine. The charging system was tested and it is fine. I removed the V&H FuelPak and so far that seems to have fixed the problem. Six rides and no breakdowns. Today will be the first long (40 miles each way) test for it. Also I have to say V&H was great to deal with. I sent the unit back and they are testing it now.
it has a race tuner that was already installed when i purchased the bike. air cleaner is factory and i have vance and hines pipes
What brand and model is the tuner? Based on what I went through recently, that is the place I would start. Remove it and plug the ECM back in without the tuner in place. Then ride it to see if your problem goes away, as mine did.
The best part about this test is that it takes about 10 minutes to do and its free.
I would add bad or wrong gas to the list. My GF accidentally put 87 octane in her 2011 Heritage and it wouldn't idle, died at every stop, until topped off a couple times with 93 octane. No codes ever showed.
makes sense so thanks i did put lower octane in before last gas stop was 93 im going to top off a cpl of times see what happens. i also did a little investigation just really observing and i did not see anything that resembled a tuner box etc there was a delphi siren box plugged in with the wire cut i removed it. i figured it was part of a security system from a previous owner thats no longer in use
