So this sounds nuts but it happened. I have a late model sportster, 2011, i was taking out the battery yesterday. while taking out, the battery is free. i look behind me for something, and moving back a wrench slides off the seat lands directly on top of both terminals and pinches the ground wire on the terminal too. So i now have sparks flying, wrench, and ground cable stuck to the battery, after many burns i get all off. So deep breath. test the battery, meter still has a 12.7 on it. i reconnect to the bike after i do what i'm doing. turn key to ignition. turn on pump, hit go and the bike shuts off. so i figure battery needs a charging. charge it, put it back in. turn to ACC speedo and plate lights go on. turn to IGN nothing everything dark. turn back to ACC same lights go on. if i press the horn everything goes dark. All fuses are good. any thoughts other than replacing the battery? could i have fried something with the ground still connected and then wrench completing the circuit. The positive wires never made contact with the bike during my little mishap.
Dead battery. What you did was discharge the battery very very quickly which may, or has damaged the cells internally. Did the amperage flowing through your wrench do any welding? You can try charging overnight but it may not come back.

It sounds like the battery is shorted internally as a result of the mishap. It's not handling even a small load. I'd replace the battery.
