Ecm
Re: Ecm I have a power commander connected. I was wondering what would happen to my Dyno tune map. Collected the bike (Ł500 ! ouch) nice ride home, time will tell.
Thanks for your input fascinating subject, any one have a picture of inside the ECM ?
Kind regards to all. db
The power paint on the luggage rack over top of the chrome was likely simply the HD factory running short of black luggage racks that production day, but having plenty of chrome ones, and making the tactical decision to coat the chrome ones with black powder and us them on the "black" bikes.

So now the Q ....whats the best way to stop "catastrophic event like a voltage spike" ?
off topic ... how long does a battery last 4 or 6 years ? allways kept on trickle charge .

I think a Harley is a tough environment for a battery: high current draw to start a big twin, lots of vibration compared to a car, etc. I wouldn't plan on more than 3 years unless you use a SMART (not regular) trickle charger, AND you are very lucky.
Some of the bad things about continuing to use a weak battery are:
- It will leave you stranded at the worst possible time
- It will irritate you a lot before it finally fails (mysterious electrical and engine performance shortcomings)
- It can cause the contacts on the starter relay to overheat, melt into each other, and then run the starter, even after you release the starter button, until the battery, or starter, or both get ruined.
Running a weak battery makes no sense. New ones are not that expensive.
