Help . 1984 ironhead 1000 xlh electronic ignition. Starts but only runs for about 1/2 minute to 1 minute, then stalls and won't start again. Getting gas, changed coil, wiring looks good, changed/new plugs, but the spark seems to be stopping all of a sudden. Any ideas what could be the problem?

 

My first thought was the coil but you have changed that.

Is the electronic ignition the original that came with the bike? or is it a modern one like the Hi-4, Ultima, etc. If unsure post a pic of whatever is behind the round, ignition module cover on the cam cover.

 

The electronic ignition is the original. Took it off, everything looked good and the wires seemed in good condition. When we changed the coil it started and ran good for about 1 hour, I thought that was the fix, but the next day I had the same problem back again.

 

Is this bike new to you? You say the ignition is original but how 'bout the coil? They must be matched or you will burn out coils.

 

sounds like a fuel problem

 

I'd check the float and needle.
