I am looking at a bike he says its a 53 k model but it has a Iron head top end!!! Says top end may have been changed.I was under the impression the older Kmodel blocks would NOT accept iron head cylinders and heads. Stampings on left side of case are 53K near fron cylinder and 1965 on rear. Bike looks to be all there and am interested if its either an original K model or if its a 1965 sportster

Based on the info from this website...

http://www.techsweb.us/hdvin3761.html#top

...it should be a 1953 K model, serial number 1965.

That's the same format as the VIN on my '69 XLH Sportster, except of course my VIN shows an "XLH" instead of a "K".

I can't help with the K bottoms and the Ironhead tops.

Think what you have is a set of Factory? replacement cases. Numbers appear good but the left case is incorrect. Should look like this.

That ribbed case first appeared on 1957 models

Any chance you can post up a pic ofthe belly numbers?
