Does anyone know if an OEMTach/Speedo and Cables from a 1974 Ironhead will work on a 1972?
Note: Sorry for all the recent questions. I've had this bike for about a year and have just now really started riding it....that's why I have so many issues all of a sudden.
I think no, my best quess is that from -74 both meters manufacturer was changed, so treat was changed
to 12mm ( manufactured in japan)
speedo cables:
XL 57-70 OEM #67051-52A ( drive from gearbox)
XL 70-72 OEM #67051-70 ( drive from gearbox????)
XL 74-83 OEM #67051-74 ( drive from front hub)
tachcable
I really don't know about older...PG ? I quess no.
XL 74-83 OEM#92065-74 (drive from "nosecone")
newer bikes have electronic tach
No. The 74 is attached to the front hub and the 72 was still attached to the transmission. The drives are different. This is of course if I remember correctly ( I am getting old).
10-4 that Cal.......
The 72 and earlier has the transmission drive. In 1973 the Sportster had a front disc brake installed, and that is when the front wheel speedo drive began. These cables do not interchange..........pg
