had to buy a new battery. money was an issue due to being a nice guy, but thats a long story. i need to know the best way to polarize a generator. unsure if this was rebuilt at all or not. i did have it tore apart cuz a post fell inside the generator but no work was done other than putting the terminal post back in. this is a 72 ironhead. brand spanking new interstate battery. had to have reverse terminals due to the mounting of the oil tank and the rigid frame. didnt want to get the electric chair early!!!!! (lol) thanks allen
The administrators of this site should just make this a sticky because it is asked many times.......
To 'flash the fields' all you have to do after all wiring has been connected and before starting the engine is to momentarily jump the Bat and Gen connections on the voltage regulator (Delco-Remy regulator).
If you have a Bosch regulator the correct terminals will be marked 'D+' and 'B+'......pg
ok now my next question is how do you do that. as far as my regulator goes all i can tell ya is it has field, battery, generator marked on it. dont remember what kind it really is
The terminals you want to jump are the 'Bat' and the 'Gen'. DO NOT CONNECT TO THE FIELD! Kick start or electrical start, it makes no difference............pg
