For a '68 XLCH what are the benefits of oversized valve springs? The oversized valve spring kit Im lookin at comes with .5"-.6" valve springs with titamium collars.Would it be worth it to buy them over std size?
Also, there are 2 different pushrod sets available for my bike.
3/8" NON ADJUSTABLE chromoly or aluminum style for any '57-85 sportster.
anda stock replacement for '53-84 Shovelheads and Panheads. Well <--- this one looks the same in the catalog pic and im familiar with the adjustable pushrods on my bike, but they are less specific on the discription and it worries me.
Thanks for your time
I could be wrong, but the longer springs are probably for use with high lift cams, since you would normally install valves with longer stems. All Ironhead Sportster pushrods are non-adjustable. The tappet (cam follower) that the bottom end of the pushrod rides on has the adjuster built in. The chrome moly pushrods are stronger, but the aluminum (stock) ones are lighter and run more quiet, and are fine for a moderate horespower street Sportster.
yeah, 83XLX is correct, longer springs are made to work in conjunction with high lift cams. I however like cromoly push rods... for me they are just piece of mind (this might come from my Volkswagen background...).
Jim
i told you the rods werent adjustable...just order them already and dont forget my carb, ignition, shirt and seat springs...thanks buddy its on me next time...lol
