I am looking at the rear motor mount (Broken off ear and cracked) I ordered one off of ebay and I'm waiting for it to arrive. Now I hear that I have to split the cases to change this out. I have seen the pingel and sounds like a fix to this but, The motor is out of the bike and I have removed the bottom two right side motor mount studs (came out when removing the nuts.) The top side side motor mount stud nut came off and left the stud in. It looks to me like if I pull that top side motor mount stud out the motor mount will just fall out. Now am i right with this assumption? and if I am how would I go about removing the stud.
You are correct. If you can remove the studs then you do not have to split the cases. The studs are what requires you to split the cases. These studs should be so tight in the leftside case that there is no way to remove them,,,,,usually. Sounds like you got lucky. You are only 1 stud removal away from success, but I bet it is going to be a difficult job getting that one out, reason being there is no way to grab it good except by the threads. That is not a good idea.
Be sure to get the studs in as tight as possible when you put it back together, if you are able to get that top stud removed.......pg
Current plan is to run a thin nut down the stud, then take another nut and tighten it just enough to cover the top of the stud threads. Going to spot weldthe end of the stud and nut and heat the base of the stud a little and see if I can back it out. worst case I have to grind a little of the stud off to get the nut back off and I will have another nut on the stud to clean the threads up.
That should do it. I keep forgeting you have the engine removed, so you can get at it much easier than if it were in the frame.
Another thing you have going for you is the fact that the other studs came out easy. This one will just be a tad more difficult, hopefully...........pg
welded a nut to the end of the stud and it came right out. Replaced the studs with bolts and the new motor mount is on and the engine is back in the bike.
