Hi All...well if all went well I am an official newbie on this forum! I have to tell you I have spent a lot of time reading posts and am quite empressed. I have a 1977 sportster XLT, this is the kind that came with the saddlebags, windshield and touring seat back in the day. Its mostly stock and I am looking for the bags and windshield to get it as close as possible to original (why I don't know...just kind of cool I guess). She runs well, but does keep me busy keeping it that way. Looking forward to continued reading and maybe subtle participation along the way! I also have a 06 heritage softail but I guess thats for another part of this forum. Take care...and look forward to talking to you folks. Regards...Jim
Hi Jim,
As of one week ago I am a proud owner of a 77 xlh .When I got it the motor was froze due to sitting for eight years. I got a crash course this past week in cam installations for Iron heads. Anyway I took it one step at a time and rode it today for the first time. What a thrill! I was surprized how that thing would scoot. Nice to meet you good luck on finding the parts you need.

Welcome to "gang" that XLT is little rare model, one info what I have says that there is 1099 pcs manufactured in -77 and 6 pcs in -78 after that it was replaced XLS model.
Those original bags might be hard to find, I don't know if they are same than in shovel....
Yeah.....thanks for the welcome.....the saddlebags for the sportster back in the 70's was a little smaller. Although I am sure I could get the larger bags to fit...I want to try to stay original. I have seen the ones I wanedt a couple of times the last few years.......I just didn't think 500 bux was reasonable but I guess they knewI wanted them and we couldn't agree on the price. ....and the others were pretty cracked and I don't think salvageable. I will keep looking though...no hurry.

Welcome to the forum, and yes, it is cool to keep (or restore) an old bike stock. Good luck with your parts search.
