Modification question
I have a question concerning performance issues with an old 73 XLCH. Everybody seems to be changing Air Cleaners for more air, Exhausts for looks and performance, and so on.So far the only change from stock that I'vedone is to change the Exhaust from the old Header/Muffler toDrag Pipes. Would it be a good idea to open up the back of the Air Cleaner? If the answer is yes, would I now have to rejet the carb?I'm sure my lack of knowledge is obvious, but I'm trying to get the maximum performance out of this old bike, trying to stay as original as I possibly can. Thanks.

There's an article in the Do It Yourself Forum here that shows how to modify drag pipes for better low end torque and overall performance. Depending on the carb you can install an adjustable main jet so you can fine tune it.
